HIGHLIGHTS
Project Completed in October 2006
Aman Environmental Construction was contracted to perform the complete facility decontamination and decommissioning of the former Delphi Automotive Systems, Battery Manufacturing Facility in Anaheim, California. The proposed scope of services included the decontamination of lead impacted surface areas, asbestos abatement, removal of universal waste items, and the complete aboveground and below ground concrete and steel structure demolition. This facility encompassed 21 acres and was the primary west coast battery manufacturing facility for Delphi Automotive. Manufacturing operations included plastics injection, lead plate assembly, acid storage, charge tables and final assembly.
Decontamination activities involved wet and dry removal of lead oxide dust and solids, high pressure cleaning of surface areas and dust collection systems, chemical storage tanks, and draining of mechanical fluids. Once the decontamination activities had been completed, Aman proceeded with the aboveground dismantling and demolition of the main assembly building and supporting ancillary structures. Construction varies from brick, concrete, and steel. All concrete was stockpiled onsite for eventual concrete recycling. The crushed concrete will be used for future property redevelopment. Steel components were consolidated and transported offsite for metal recycling.
